Samir Dasgupta

Samir Dasgupta (D.Litt.) is a Professor of Sociology at the University of Kalyani, West Bengal, India. He is Director of the College Development Council, University of Kalyani and Member of the Advisory Committee of the Centre for the Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy, University of Calcutta. His research interests centre on applied sociology, development studies and sociology of globalization, urban sociology, economic sociology, environment studies, and peace studies. Professor Dasgupta has produced 18 doctoral students to date. His publications include: Economic Sociology (Bengali version), 1983, West Bengal State Book Board; Sociology Through Objective Mirror, 1999, University of Kalyani Publication; Global Malady in the Third World—A Reflection, 2002, Prateeti; The Changing Face of Globalization (ed.), 2004, Sage; Globalization and After (ed. with Ray Kiely), 2006, Sage; Discourse on Applied Sociology: Theoretical Perspectives and Discourse on Applied Sociology: Practising Perspectives (ed. with Robyn Driskell), 2007, Anthem Press. Another volume, Globalization and Humanity and Politics of Globalization, is forthcoming. He is the President, Society for Applied Sociology India (SASI) and a member of the editorial board of the journal, Nature and Culture.
