Irfan Habib, Professor Emeritus at the Aligarh Muslim University and a historian of international repute, has served in the Indian History Congress for many years. Among the books authored by him are Agrarian System of Mughal India; An Atlas of the Mughal Empire; Essays in Indian History: Towards a Marxist Perception; Medieval India: The Study of a Civilization. Habib has been honoured with several awards, including the Watumull Prize of American Historical Association in 1982 and the Padma Bhushan in 2005.
