Peter Berger teaches Indian religions and the anthropology of religion at the University of Groningen, in the Netherlands. He studied social and cultural anthropology at the Free University of Berlin, where he obtained his Ph.D. and also worked as a lecturer and research assistant. He conducted his research on tribal highland Orissa (India) with a focus on social structure, rituals and food.
