R. V. G. Menon has taught in various state engineering colleges in Kerala as a faculty member, and retired in 1998 as the principal of Government Engineering College, Kannur. He has served as the director of the Agency for Non-conventional Energy and Rural Technology and of the Integrated Rural Technology Centre.
